Dental VeneersThe beauty of your face is greatly dependent on your mouth. If teeth are damaged in any way, patients may become self-conscious. However, there are options available to help improve your appearance. One of the ways our office can help is by placing veneers for our patients to take care of cavities or discoloration. A veneer is a thin covering placed on the front part of the affected tooth. Most people confuse these dental coverings with crowns. However, they are not the same procedure. Veneers are attached to the front of the tooth while crowns cover the entire exposed portion. The veneer looks like a natural tooth and will not be noticed even by close friends. At Rolling Plains Dentistry, we can help you rediscover your beautiful smile again. If you come to us with dental issues requiring restoration, we will take you through the available options. In case you choose to have a veneer, we will ask you to choose between those made from porcelain or those made from resin. Once the decision is made, we proceed with placing them. How the Procedure WorksThe first step in this procedure is to prepare the tooth. Our dentist will remove a small amount of enamel to create the space to attach the new covering. This helps to make your tooth look natural, so it blends in with the rest of your teeth. Since the veneer has to be prepared to match the exact shape and shade of your teeth, our dentist will develop a model using computer-aided design. We will send the design to our dental lab where a veneer will be manufactured matching your tooth's color and shape. Since the process of preparing a perfectly fitting veneer might take a couple of days, we usually have two appointments for this procedure. The first appointment is preparatory, when our staff will identify your tooth's shape and color. In most cases, we give our clients a temporary veneer to cover the tooth before they come in for the actual fitting. Once the lab is done with preparing the custom veneer, patients come in for the second visit, where the tooth is cleaned, and the veneer is fitted accordingly. Benefits of VeneersThis procedure is preferred by many people when it comes to the restoration of damaged or misaligned teeth, and for various reasons. First, only a small part of the tooth is taken off in preparation for fitting the veneer. This is contrary to crowns, where a significant part of the enamel has to be removed. Further, we can also have the entire process done in just one day upon request. We also recommend this procedure because the veneer installed will last for years. Some might even last several decades with proper care. Furthermore, if they happen to break, they can easily be fixed. If you would love to improve the look of your teeth and smile, we have the right options for you.
